The Schertz Housing Authority is dedicated to providing safe, decent, and affordable housing opportunities for the residents of the City of Schertz. The Authority administers both the Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) programs, serving elderly, disabled, and low-income households within the community.

Established in 1977, the Schertz Housing Authority began operations as a small public housing program with an initial development of 26 public housing units. A second phase expanded the program with an additional 50 units, reflecting the Authority’s long-standing commitment to meeting local housing needs. Over time, the Authority has continued to evolve to address the changing needs of the community.

Today, the Authority owns and operates 76 public housing units, all designated for elderly and disabled residents. In addition, the Schertz Housing Authority administers 157 Housing Choice Vouchers, allowing families to access affordable housing throughout the City of Schertz.

The Authority also partners with private developers to expand affordable housing opportunities. Through a partnership with NRP, the Schertz Housing Authority supported the development of The Aviator 1518, a modern mixed-income community. The Authority administers 25 project-based vouchers at this property, ensuring long-term affordability for participating households.

The Schertz Housing Authority is supported by a dedicated staff that includes one Public Housing Program Manager, two Housing Choice Voucher staff members, and on-site maintenance personnel. The Authority is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners appointed by the Mayor of the City of Schertz, who provide policy direction and oversight in support of the Authority’s mission.
